Quote of the Day: Ray Lesniak Edition

by: Rosi Efthim

Mon Nov 23, 2009 at 09:04:59 AM EST

Sen. Ray Lesniak, a solid supporter of marriage equality and a man who knows how to use power when he's got it to use, sent an email to fellow legislators on Friday, urging them to bring marriage equality to a vote in lame duck session and to do so without fear:

... neither the wrath of God nor of voters will descend upon you.

Lesniak cited last week's Rutgers Eagleton Poll finding that more New Jerseyans support passage of same-sex marriage than oppose it, and continued:

Let's vote our conscience.  I hope your conscience says support marriage equality, but if it doesn't I understand your view.  What I can't understand is not voting.

Pains me to type this... (0.00 / 0)
but good for Ray. Credit where it's due.

"Where ever you go, there you are." - Buckaroo Bonzai

especially for Democrats (0.00 / 0)
like Sweeney and Sarlo, they should bring this to a vote regardless of HOW they would vote.  I'd say the same for republicans, but expect it from the D's.

Anything else or any excuse is a complete cop-out, even more so with the promises and the polling.

Get the facts about right wing lightweight politician Chris Christie

ya know, (1.00 / 2)
I was unaware that in NJ, Civil Union's don't carry the same Rights, as Marriage.

D'uh to me....

Wouldn't the passage of this Bill, confirm the NJ State Constitution of the preexisting Right to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness?

Plenty of room where I'm standing.

The day Kennedy was shot. (0.00 / 0)
We're going to remember how these legislators vote, for a long, long time. And they ought to remember that, now.

There's going to come a day when people ask about their legislators, How did you vote on marriage equality? the same way people old enough to remember ask each other, Where were you on the day Kennedy was shot?

It's not a particularly snappy signature, but here's what I think we need in the next NJ Democratic State Chair.
