I was very disappointed that incoming Senate President Sweeney abstained his vote and even more disappointed that South Jersey Democrats for the most part opposed marriage equality. Is this the type of progressive leadership we are going to expect from Senator Sweeney? I advocated for giving Senator Sweeney a chance but I was blown away by Senator Codey's speech today.
Furthermore, word is that double-dipper Nic Sacco played a big role behind the scenes in opposing the marriage equality bill. Maybe an indicator why even conservative activist and Steve Lonegan Campaign Manager Rick Shaftan just became a fan of his on Facebook.
On a last thought, State Senator Sean Kean gave a cowardly speech today that was inarticulate, self-serving and confusing. He talked about having the gayest district but he is deeply offended by civil rights and deeply offended by primaries so he will vote No. I hope the residents of Asbury Park, Long Branch and Ocean Grove wake up and throw out this coward from office in 2011. Same for Jen Beck who ran in 2007 supporting marriage equality when she defeated Ellen Karcher. Now she didn't have courage to utter a single word in committee or on the floor. I hope that her constituents in Red Bank and across the 12th District remember this in 2011.
Thats it - just a few rambling thoughts after watching that vote.
Lets go to war Blue Jersey - we can't afford to blindly follow anyone just because they have D next to their names. People like Bill Baroni deserve not only our respect and admiration, but also our support. |
