Corzine's poll average below 40%

by: Hopeful

Wed Mar 04, 2009 at 02:05:49 PM EST

The economy is terrible and incumbent governors naturally get some blame. New York Governor David Paterson has a 28% approval rating(Siena Poll -PDF).  Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell is at 47% approval (Quinnipiac poll).  In the latest New Jersey poll by Fairleigh Dickinson University, Governor Jon Corzine lands in the middle, with 40% approval and 46% disapproval. Worse yet, we find him well below 50% in the re-elect numbers, trailing Chris Christie 32%-41%. This poll has 751 registered  voters for a margin of error of 4%. I don't think there is anything to say that I haven't said before.

The average of all five 2009 polls from four different pollsters leaves Corzine trailing Christie 37.6%-39.2%. Never mind about 50%, we do not have any polls with Corzine above 40%.  The average of the six polls with approval-disapproval gives us 41.3% approve, 46.3% disapprove.

Corzine needs to stop pissing off his base (4.00 / 5)
He needs to go strong with the 5% surcharge on those making over $250k, and show the voters how the stimulus money will be used.  He needs to stop with all the gloom and doom budget cut talk and the furlough days.

He can still win.  Brendan Byrne was dead in the water at this point in 1977 and came back to win big.  Florio was thougt to be toast, but ended up losing by one percent.  No one was more unpopular than him.  Corzine's money will help, but lack of enthusiasm among his base will doom him.

Corzine Will Kick Christie's Ass If..... (4.00 / 2)
.....he makes a conscious choice to not only run...but GOVERN, as an all out progressive!!!

The people of this state have gone through enough shit to realize how they are being screwed and by whom....all Corzine has to do is to re-align align himself with the best interests of the PEOPLE of New Jersey...and he'll win in a landslide.

What is Corzine afraid of?   Is he being blackmailed?   Is he afraid of being physically harmed?  Or is it that he truly just doesn't GET the fact that our problems are, in great measure, caused by the consequences of many many years of systemic corruption (much of it LEGALIZED!!!).

Jon Corzine doesn't have enough money to run a conventional campaign and win.....the same old bs won't wash again and again.

Corzine needs to come forth with an all out progressive agenda and with an all out merciless critique of Christie....and the only way that critique will be credible is if/when Jon Corzine walks fully through the door of political/personal transformation and emerges as a raging aggressive progressive!!!   And if that upsets some of the Democratic political machines that have been "having their way" with the people pf New Jersey...well then, to hell with'em!

If we Democrats intend to hold our majorities we need to transform our party from the base on up!!!

Worse Than I thought (0.00 / 0)
I figured he would be down 10 AFTER the budget address!

Now he will be down at least 13 points by this time next week.

There is still a long time before election day but Corzine better start his campaign and stop worrying about taking care of the economy. The economy is in the sh**ter and will remain there for the next year.

Christie is defining him as the " problem" with the economy and Corzine is letting him get away with it.

Corzine and the Democrats think they can just turn this election on and off. Well they can't.

Corzine will not gain one polling point from now until the budget is signed unless he changes his tactics.

Money will help but it will not buy this election. The attacks must begin on Lonegan and Chrisite.

Time for Corzine to drop out of the race? (0.00 / 1)
Do we really want to risk being embarrassed by another Torricelli Shuffle?  If he steps down now, we can put in somebody else without the repeated national embarrassment of breaking the 51 day rule.
